Resources Sales

Gowrie NSW has commissioned and overseen the publication of several highly relevant resource books, specially written for practitioners seeking to further their professional development as well as for parents seeking to understand some of the most topical issues currently engaging the early childhood field. Authors have drawn from their extensive professional experience, actively working to promote Best Practice by offering practical strategies for achieving the highest standards of service delivery. Thoroughly researched, they provide a rich information resource, based on extensive consultation with a broad spectrum of the childcare sector.

Below is a brief synopsis of just two of our current resources:

  1. Russell, A and Gowrie staff (2010), Assessment in the Early Years, Gowrie Australia.

Documenting children’s learning and program evaluation has long been a part of quality practice in early childhood education and care (ECEC). While promoting new terminology, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) reinforces the importance of reflective practice and assessment of teaching and learning to promote the best outcomes for children. Assessment is a central practice of early childhood educators, however, much of the assessment we do is not documented or recorded in a formal way.

The Assessment in the Early Years resource and the supporting professional learning program was developed by Gowrie Australia to support early childhood educators in implementing the EYLF.

  2. NSW Health (2005), Caring for Children: Food, Nutrition and Fun Activities: A practical guide to meeting the food and nutrition needs of children in care, 4th edition, NSW Department of Health, Sydney.

In Australia an increasing number of children are now being cared for outside the home and the provision of good nutrition is vital in achieving high quality childcare.

This has been reinforced by policy reforms outlined in the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care, recently implemented by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

This NSW Health resource covers all key aspects of food and nutrition relevant to early childhood settings. It includes sections on nutrition, food preparation (including menu planning, food safety) and food awarenes activities. The guide also contains a selection of full day menus and plenty of delicious child-friendly recipes.
